8th March is the International Women’s Day. In the 8th March of the year 1859, the day emerged in the history as the women workers in a needle factory in the city of New York in the United States of America, revolutionized and campaigned to establish their rights. Since then onwards, this day has been seen and celebrated as a new headway of development and women focused revolution among all the countries entitled under United Nations program and has brought about a new pathway in the direction of decision making and is celebrated as national and international women empowerment day.
The day has now become such an event that in the spotlight of which flourishes the work of those ordinary women who has played remarkable roles and also demonstrated the bold promissory works of the ordinary women in the history of women revolution.
8th March 2009, in the International Women’s day the theme chosen was “men and women unites to end violence against women and girls”. Since 1993 onwards, NUK has been successful in showing respect in the International Women Day to the women workers and their historical roles played along with the women workers of Bangladesh.
It is stated that, NUK has been effectively implementing and has conducted various programs and planned work, training, in order to flourish the demand for the rights of the workers employed in garment factories, their residential conditions, health services, voter registration, law for provision of minimum wage and labor law.
The audiences at the discussion meeting organized by NUK on the 8th March 2009 comprised of female garment workers, association leaders, representatives, journalists and media. |

Many female garment workers came forward to convey their experiences and suffering to the chief guest and urged for improvements or emanation of numerous excruciating issues arising in their working premises.
Mr. Azizur Rahman, joint secretary (ministry of labor & employment) has been successful in conducting the role of a guardian to improve the living standard of the female garment workers. Mr. Azizur Rahman has been the CHIEF GUEST of the program organized by NUK, at CIRDAP Auditorium, scheduled in the morning of 8th March 2009 to attend the special seminar on Bangladesh Woman Garment Workers.
He also made a speech towards the present audiences and promised for future cooperation regarding the betterment of condition for the under privileged female garment workers of Bangladesh. Ms. Mashuda Khatun Shefali, Executive Director of NUK who has taken most initiatives for the female garment workers to assure of their rights and have always been at their side educating them about self realization and building awareness in them to fight for their rights at work place as well as in social settings. During the seminar Ms. Shefali conducted a meaningful session by addressing the needs and other relevant necessities and appealing for immediate consideration to these unmet issues. |
